25 years later | What I learned from the show Blues Clues

Yesterday was the 25-year anniversary of Blues Clues.

Now this one may be a little disconnected from everything else, but this show actually means more to me than most.

See, I wasn’t just a show for me, it was a way to bond with someone outside of my family when I was younger.

Teaching us deduction skills, problem solving, math, everything.

It really laid a strong foundation in my opinion, for the things I’m interested in til this day.

At this time in my life, I’m 26 years old and I’ve watched that show up until I was in my early elementary years.

So it was something that really affected me.

Here’s what happened

My day started off pretty interesting yesterday, seeing a tweet about this first thing in the morning.

I started watching the video and it instantly felt like I was teleported back to my younger days.

Steve speaking to me through the screen, talking to me like I was right in front of him, and really just catching me up on how everything has been.

But looking at him, he’s grown, just like me.

He then went on to talk about the real life.

How we’ve experienced so much more since the Blues Clues days.

With student loans, jobs, marriage, we’ve really stepped into a much older chapter in our lives by this point.

He spoke to relate to our own accomplishments, tying it back to the lessons we learned when we were children.

Me and Blues Clues

Older now, I realized this wasn’t just a show for me.

It was a relationship, a friendship.

Somebody who spoke to me, encouraged me to do my best, and figured things out with me.

As much as it was a TV show, it was so much more than that.

I genuinely feel like I learned more from this show, that those around me growing up.

Not only did it teach deductive and problem solving skills, it also taught us to treat people with respect.

It gave us a glimpse into the lives of other children with mail time.

Blues Clues encouraged us to use our imagination, and that hopping into a picture frame, a book or a television screen, really isn’t that far-fetched.

A response to Blues Clues and Steve

On this note, I thought I’d write a direct response to Steve and the gang, something I’ve always wanted to do when I was younger.

Hi Steve,

It’s nice to see you and catch up with you after all these years.

I understand why you had to just leave for college now. It happened to me as well.

I guess at some point in our lives, we just all have to grow up huh?

The words “use your mind to take one step at a time, you can do anything, that you want to do”, still stick with me til this day.

I’m very fortunate that I somehow ended up doing something I want to do as well, and I wanted to share that I couldn’t have done it without you either.

All the lessons we learned when I was younger, I still take with me everyday.

I never forgot about you either.

Thank you so much for shaping my mind when I was younger. I’ll always know that with me and you, and of course Blue, we can do anything, that we want to do.

Happy 25-year anniversary!

Alex
