I’ll settle for the Ghost of you | What I learned from Justin Bieber

It really has been a while since I’ve done one of these so I wanted to shout out a very special song that I’ve been listening to again recently, Ghost.

While Justin typically always has a song or two that sleeps on the album for a while before exploding, I’m looking at you Love Yourself, Ghost has a very special message in my opinion that just had me thinking.

So in honour of Justin getting back into music again with his new music, and of course the recent Justice album, I wanted to talk about this meaningful track, Ghost.

The meaning behind ghost

I think one of the reasons why I love the song so much is the meaning behind it.

More than a song, it’s a reflection of what it means to lose someone.

While I don’t know who he’s referring to, I think that it’s about losing someone beyond just relationship.

It’s love.

Someone who matters to him

And the emotions you feel about someone close to you, you’d really do anything just to see them one last time.

Even if it is just the ghost of them.

While I don’t believe in spirits, I do think that the meaning behind the song is definitely magical and beautiful.

Life is short

But I also think that another underlying message is that life is short.

We always thing there will be tomorrow.

That things will always work out and so we take things for granted.

We take people for granted and we take the time we have with them for granted.

I know that the song is written about his late grandfather, and personally I definitely understand the feeling.

When we have a loved one that we care about so deeply, it seems almost unfair that they are taken from us.

But unfortunately, that’s how life is sometimes.

Life is short.

And if I can’t be close to you

If you’ve ever lost someone in your life, I feel like this song is relatable.

Sometimes we think about them, and we think back to all the memories we shared with them.

Memories that now stay memories, because we can no longer recreate them.

Losing someone is so hard, and I truly think that the emotion is expressed through his words in this song.

I’d do anything just to see my grandfather one last time as well.

Even if it was just the ghost of him. Just to show him how I turned out.
