I finally got COVID last week| Sharing my pandemic story

Self-isolation from having COVID is the absolute worst, and I don't want it again.

This past week has been the roughest I’ve had in a while, because COVID is not a joke.

Aside from being incredibly sentimental last week, one of the biggest learnings coming out of it was just how good we actually have it.

And believe it or not, this will actually not have that much to do with the illness itself.

Self-isolation

Perhaps one of the most underrated annoyances from getting COVID, is the aspect of self-isolation.

Along with the moments of self-reflection, you also get an incredible sense of loneliness.

It’s not the same as getting sick.

Because in this case, nobody can take care of you.

I think it’s definitely a blessing that this is happening in the age of technology because while isolated, we’re still able to communicate.

But essentially, this felt like the past two years on steroids.

COVID keeps you from your family

Another aspect of my life I reflected on, was my relationship with my family.

While we have a good relationship, I think that often times when we’re caught up with life, family can sometimes take a backburner spot.

Whether that’s getting a partner, moving to a new career position, important moments with your friends, family can sometimes be the last thing we think about.

Something that stuck out to me, is how that should never ever be the case.

Truly, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and this is the case with our families.

Let’s face it, we’re not getting any younger and those beautiful moments shared with family are often when we were young.

As we all grow up, people grow to different stages in their lives and we never know when it will be the last time we do something with our siblings before we all get married.

Not having them in my life this week really reminded me to cherish them.

On the road to recovery

I’d like to think that I was fortunate enough to be the later ones to get it.

My family and I had it after all three vaccine shots, and after the disease has stabilized a bit and is more manageable.

While it definitely took a toll on all of us, we are all on the mend and doing better.

Have you experienced COVID before? What was it like?
